Grandma came from North Carolina, in a little place called Walnut. She had three sisters and two brothers and then her father, who was a farmer, and her mom, the housewife. There was Aunt Mary, Aunt Peggy, Grandma (Eileen), Uncle Hurst, Uncle Russell, and Aunt Resa. They each played Basketball in high school. Grandma has a yearbook with herself, Aunt Mary and Aunt Peggy in the book. All three were on the high school team together. Aunt Peggy was in the book for having made the most points for the team. The number was really high was more than 400. For the boys section, the high was in the 200s. They did not have a car, and all of them had to walk to and from school everyday, and even for basketball games, their parents came to the games as well. They lived on a mountain, the school was down the mountain, and then their church was across from the school. They often got into mischief and there are a bunch of stories that my grandma, and her sisters shared.
My Grandma and aunts onetime, were playing outside. Farmers would dig huge, deep holes in the farms grounds. I believe it was to hold water during rain so that the crops could stay hydrated. Well, the sisters were playing with a ball outside, and the ball fell into one of the holes. Each girl was very thin, and so they took my Aunt Mary, stuck her in a bag and put her down the hole, so she could retrieve the ball. She got stuck. All of them started screaming, and then a farmer near by came and helped them out.
Once when my grandma was in elementary school, a boy in class had stood up and announced to the class that he had gotten new pants. He said "the pants are big at the bottom and small at the top," then my grandma said, without missing a beat "yeah and the thing in the middle goes flippity flop."
When my Aunt Mary and Grandma graduated high school, they both moved to Washington DC, and started working at the FBI. They would save money to send back home, the Thomas family back home did not have a lot of money, and they wanted to help. They ended up buying the family a car and even a bathroom for the inside of the house. They had to live with an outhouse for a very long time.
Aunt Mary ended up getting married and had stayed in Virginia for a while, and then her and her husband ended up moving to North Carolina. Grandma had married Grandpa, who she met at the church she started going to in VA. Grandpa was from St. Louis, they married in St. Louis so that my Grandpa's mom could be there. They came back to VA and started their life together. They had three girls, grandpa was a cab driver and then my grandma stayed with the FBI. Aunt Resa had stayed in North Carolina, but came for visits.
